Durr was a Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff who was gunned down in May 2017 while responding to a disturbance at a home. Brookhaven police officers Moak and White were shot dead in September 2018 as they responded to reports of gunfire in a neighborhood.

The families of the officers were present at the inauguration, with US Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, US Representative Michael Guest and Mississippi State Representative Becky Currie.
