Preservation Buffalo Niagara to Host Historic Tax Credit Workshop | News, Sports, Jobs

Do you have a historic home listed on the National Register of Historic Places?

If you do, you may be able to claim a historic tax credit on qualifying rehabilitation expenses.

Join Preservation Buffalo Niagara (PBN) and the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation (JRC) for a free zoom virtual workshop on Thursday, February 24 at 6 p.m. for an evening filled with historical tax credit excitement. At the workshop, you’ll learn about historical tax credits available to homeowners and businesses, including other eligibility criteria, types of eligible work, and how to submit a claim.

Whether you are planning to rehab your primary residence or a commercial property, there are state and federal incentives that could help. Rehabilitation projects eligible for historic tax credits include, but are not limited to, interior and exterior painting, system upgrades, roof replacements, masonry repairs, window and door repairs and floor finishing.

“Over the past nine years, the JRC and the Jamestown Development Department have worked to create three National Register Historic Districts in Jamestown – Downtown, Lakeview and Forest Heights. And a fourth area is being researched on the west side of town,” said Mary Maxwell, JRC Neighborhood Project Manager. “These historic neighborhoods not only celebrate our historic built environment, but also provide access to financial incentives and we are thrilled to partner with PBN to help educate the community.”

Although this workshop is free and open to the public, pre-registration is required. To register or to verify if your property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, please contact PBN’s Christiana Limniatis, Director of Preservation Services, at [email protected] or visit preservebuffaloniagara.org.
