All those taxpayers who are waiting for an extension of the tax filing deadline should know that their dream of filing an ITR online at the last moment has been shattered. The central government said there was no proposal to extend the filing date for the tax return. It can be noted that the RTI filing date was December 31, 2021. “There is no proposal to extend the filing date of the income tax return: Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj, Indian government,” tweeted the ANI.

Later on December 31, 2021, the Income Tax Department informed that more than 5.78 crore in RTI for AY 2021-22 had been filed by 7 p.m. on December 31, 2021. “More than 5, ITR 78 crore for AY 2021-22 filed up to 7:00 p.m. today versus ITR 5.95 crore for AY 2020-21 filed through January 10, 2021 (extended deadline for AY 2020-21). ITR 35.74 lakh deposited today and ITR 4.55 lakh deposited in the last hour, ”the Income Tax Department tweeted.

It can be noted that people were asking for an extension of the tax filing deadline and the demand grew to such a scale that #Extend_Due_Date_Immediately started to become a trend on Twitter on December 31, 2021. The request to extend the date RTI’s production limit was mainly due to the income tax portal that taxpayers faced.

Taxpayers complained about technical issues with the RTI portal and therefore further requested an extension of the date. It can be noted that the central government had extended the deadline for filing the RTI to December 31 from July 31 earlier in the year.

One of the Twitter users tweeted: “3 Reasons Enough to Extend the RTI Deadline: – 1. The new portal was created late 2. Although late, but a mess taking away many hours of work. 3 . Suddenly AIS and TIS went off the rails. “While another user wrote:” Thanks to Infosys and Income Tax India for such a wonderful portal, new mistakes and new problems every day.
